Sculpture
The art of three-dimensional forms and designs.
Overview
Develop a three-dimensional artistic design encompassing length, width, and depth from solid or malleable material such as wood, stone, clay, plaster, resin or paper.
Acceptable Mediums
● Sculpture (wood, clay, metal, etc.)
● Mixed Media
● Digital 3D Modeling (3D printing, CNC machining, etc.)
● Installation Art
Notes for Judges ● Each contestant will have 3 minutes to present their project and then the judging co-hort will have 5 minutes for any follow up questions and quick deliberations before the next contestant. Each contestant will only have an allocated time frame of 10 minutes. ● You should not under any circumstances engage with the students before or after the competition until the Awards Ceremony has concluded. ● You must provide honest constructive feedback for each contestant that you are judging. ● Scoring Rubric: ○ 95-100 - Qualifies as a Gold Medalist ○ 90+Up - Qualifies as a Silver Medalist ○ 85+Up - Qualifies as a Bronze Medalist ■ Please take heed that the identifying word here is “Qualifies”. There can be multiple contestants that can qualify as gold medalist and if that’s the case the highest score will receive the gold, and silver and bronze will be allocated to the next two highest scores. ■ In the event the highest score is a 90 then there is no gold medalist and there’s only a possibility for a silver and bronze medalist as long as the remaining scores land within the 85+Up region.
Requirements:
1. One Entry Per Student: Only one project can be submitted per student.
2. Display Space: The National Office will provide a display table or space for each entry.
3. Oral Presentation: Each contestant must give a 3-minute oral presentation explaining their project's concept, materials, techniques, and artistic intent.
No Craft Projects: Craft projects (ceramics, macrame, etc.) are not eligible.
Contestants Will Be Judged By The Following Criteria:
• Concept (20 pts)
• Composition (20 pts)
• Craftsmanship (20 pts)
• How well the medium was applied (20 pts)
• Dimensional Form (20 pts)

Point Deduction
-1 to -5 In the event the student presentation exceeds 3 mins you can deduct one point for every minute over up to five points.
Tips for Sculpture Contestants
1. Originality and Concept: Develop a strong, unique concept for your artwork. A compelling idea will set your project apart.
2. Technical Skill and Craftsmanship: Focus on mastering your chosen medium. Pay attention to detail and execute your techniques with precision.
3. Effective Presentation: Practice your oral presentation to ensure clarity and confidence. Visual aids like sketches or diagrams can enhance your explanation.
